ESPN takeover of BASS welcomed by all sides

Article Abstract:

Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) is purchasing the business and assets of Bass Anglers Sportsman Society Inc (BASS). ESPN Pres George Bodenheimer said the purchase could serve as the foundation for the introduction of an ESPN outdoors network. Montgomery, AL-based BASS is the world's biggest fishing organization with over 600,000 members. Also, the organization publishes Bassmaster Magazine and holds several fishing competitions, such as the Bassmaster Tournament Trail and BASS Masters Classic, which airs on ESPN2.

Jacobs rumored to be part of Conseco takeover effort

Article Abstract:

Carmel, IN-based insurance giant Conseco Inc is rumored to be a possible takover target of financier/boatbuilder Irwin Jacobs' Minneapolis, MN- based Genmar Holdings Inc. Jacobs has accumulated at least 11 million Conseco shares as of late May 2000, that has given him at least a 3.4% stake in the company. Conseco's shares have declined in value by nearly 90% since Apr 1998, when it agreed to buy St Paul, MN-based mortgage banker and consumer financing provider Green Tree Financial Corp for $6 billion.

Genmar claims embezzlement cost it $12M

Article Abstract:

Genmar Holdings Inc in Apr 12, 2001 filed lawsuit in Minnesota District Court against its VP and controller of its subsidiary Lund Boat Co, Gary Duane Schultz, for embezzling up to $12 million in company funds. According to Mary McConnell, Genmar general counsel, Schultz admitted to the embezzlement scheme when confronted by an audit team sent by Genmar. While McConnell said the loss is partially covered by insurance, the suit seeks damages triple the amount lost.
