Lowrance merger could create triple-duty equipment

Cobra Electronics Corp has signed a definitive agreement under which it will purchase all the outstandign shares of common stock of Lowrance for $53 million. The deal brings together premier companies from the two-way mobile communications, Sonar, marine and recreational Global Positioning System businesses, combining their complementary products, seasons and customers, and extending Cobra's global reach.

Marine electronics manufacturers have introduced a number of one-screen- for-all concept products that feature highly improved direct-sunlight visibility. A good example of the one-screen-for-all concept is the L760 of Raytheon Marine. It features a 7-in, bright, VGA, thin-film-transistor, and color LCD screen intended for bright open-cockpit use.
