Fight on the tiles

Article Abstract:

Changes in standards for concrete roof tiles to new European (CEN) standards will mean new performance based tests of strength, water impermeability, flatness and freeze/thaw resistance. Redland Roof Tiles of the UK, a tilemaker, commissioned a testing programme which showed that certain rival tiles failed some of the tests. Redland believes that UK builders should be aware of the implications of substituting products on the basis of equivalence of performance.

How to fight a site noise notice

Article Abstract:

Local authorities can prevent noise pollution from construction sites through the serving of a section 60 notice under the Control of Pollution Act 1974. The terms limit working hours from 8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays and from 8am to 1pm Saturdays. Non-compliance is a criminal offence. Contractors have a right to appeal at a Magistrates' Court if the terms which are standard are seen to be unreasonable.
