Global Mail wins round in USPS trademark suit

Article Abstract:

Global Mail Ltd., a $35 million international mailing services company based in Sterling, VA, is reportedly gaining ground in its trademark infringement lawsuit against the US Postal Service. The mailer is attempting to prevent USPS from using the service mark, "Global Priority Mail," because the tag is similar to its own service mark, "Global Mail." The trademark infringement is reportedly pending in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where it began in 1996. The case is expected to go to trial in December 1998. Meanwhile, USPS likely has until Sept. 17, 1998 to appeal to the US Supreme Court on the infringement case.
