Global Web penetration up

Article Abstract:

A Nielsen/NetRatings report on Internet access and penetration has shown that over 295 million people across 20 countries in Asia Pacific, North America and Europe have Internet access from home PCs. The report revealed that 82 million people in 14 European markets access the Web from their home PCs, while 37 million in four key Asia Pacific markets do. The highest browse-to-purchase ratio of the 14 countries surveyed in Europe was recorded in the UK.

Net income increases at J. Jill

Article Abstract:

Women's apparel retailer J Jill's net income rose 47% to $796,000 for 1st qtr 2001 due to higher catalog sales and the opening of several stores. Results showed that earnings per diluted share were 7 cents compared with 2000's 5 cents. The earnings increased despite a 10% rise in outstanding shares. The company also reported a net sales increase of 30.3% to $63.3 million, compared with $48.6 million from the previous year.

US Web firms global interest dives

Article Abstract:

There are distinct differences in how American firms and European firms view the use of e-commerce for globalization. A survey conducted by Andersen Consulting drew responses from 500 CEOs of European and US companies. The results revealed that the number of European firms with some form of e-commerce has zoomed to 97% while the number of American firms planning to go global using the Web has dropped significantly.
