Grace files Chapter 11

Article Abstract:

Columbia, MD-based CWR Grace and Co has filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code in response to a sharply increasing number of asbestos claims. The Chapter 11 filing includes 61 of Grace's domestic entities, excluding its foreign subsidiaries. The filing will allow the company to continue to operate its businesses in the usual manner under court protection from its claimants and creditors while using the process to develop and implement a plan for addressing the asbestos- related claims against it.

Insulation

Article Abstract:

Building insulation contractors are diversifying to shore up flagging sales in a stagnant market. Consolidation is becoming more common and is likely to be more dramatic than in the commercial roofing market owing to the small core of medium to large contractors in the insulation market. In a survey conducted by Roofing Siding Insulation magazine, only 11% of building insulation contractors said their business increased in 1998.
