Article Abstract:

Software developers in the UK are now making available a wide range of independent plug-together modules covering all stages of the housebuilding process. However, housebuilders are proving reluctant to embrace latest information technology solutions, and some feel that many of the software systems include modules which are not necessary. This is not deterring software developers which have gained a reputation for expertise in a specific area from considering partnerships with other software concerns to create integrated systems.

Talks over

Article Abstract:

The National Economic Development Office (NEDO) CAD Data and Information Exchange Working Party was created in 1988 to devise protocols for the exchange of data in the construction industry. It has established an industry standard bsed on AutoCAD's DXF language and has formulated and verified international standards. However, the work of the group is threatened by the government's decision to abolish NEDO. An authorative, independent body is needed to take on the work but no suitable organisation exists in Britain.
