Hot property

Article Abstract:

Glass technology has resulted in a change in fire wall design. Up to 2 hours of heat insulation can be obtained from glass and framing systems. The fire resistance of glass partitions depends on the glass specification, frame, glazing mediums and the frame fixture method. The system has to be tested as a whole before a British standard rating can be allocated. Fyrespan have developed a frame which clamps the glass in place when the glass expands with heat. Glazing on building boundaries and curved fire glass is the next step.

Rhapsody in Blue

Article Abstract:

UK architects have used computer technology to its full potential when designing the underground extension to the Jubilee Line in London. A wall consisting of 557 blue-glass triangles has been constructed at Southwark Station using the help of computer aided design technology. The wall is built on a curving slope, constructed on a steel frame, with the glass held in place by spider fixings. The wall was designed by Matthew Dean, who works for architect MacCormac Jamieson Prichard.

Article Abstract:

An architectural practice has recently been involved in choosing, purchasing and installing CAD hardware and software, in response to increased demand from clients for IT. A director of the practice visited other practices that had experience of purchasing and installing IT systems. An architect who was fully trained on Microstation was employed to introduce the technology into the practice.
