How a custom builder value engineers his product

Article Abstract:

Les Wolf, builder and owner of L.G. Wolf (Tucson, AZ) is making savings on house construction costs by using his own construction techniques. the techniques allow him to saving between 10-15% on average on the cost of a house. Designs are based on 2 ft or 4 ft increments to save materials and labour, as most lumber comes in 2 ft increments, and sheet goods in 4 ft increments, according to Matt Hodeaux, L.G. Wolf's general manager and staff architect. Plumbing is installed where possible to reduce the amount of pipe or roof penetration. A coat of stucco system is painted on the exterior, so little lumber is needed.

Dallas builder finds success in competitive new market

Article Abstract:

The Oppel Jenkins Group's venture in Albuquerque, NM, took only five years to be successful. The management attributes the company's good performance to its quality products, customer service and brick elevations that are unique to the area. Their good reputation, networking with the broker community and opening parties for Realtors have translated into sales which the division expects to reach about 200 homes in 1993. Hand-laid tile entries, crown moldings, wood privacy fences and covered patios characterize the company's designs.
