How-to publisher settles FTC deception complaint

Article Abstract:

Creative Publishing International (CPI) is paying $200,000 in civil damages to settle a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) complaint filed against the Minnesota publisher of how-to books. The FTC complaint alleged that CPI's advertising and telemarketing calls made between Jul 1, 1997 and Jun 20, 1999, failed to disclose the terms and conditions of its prenotification negative-option plans and misrepresented the free trial offers. The FTC is also requiring CPI to disclose all terms and conditions of sales plans in future telemarketing efforts.
