Internet PC firm focuses on techies

Article Abstract:

iDot.com has generated higher-than-expected, first-month sales in April 1998 due to its multicolored Web site and clever advertisements that target smart and tech-savvy consumers. iDot's ''PC's for Smarties" tag line is aimed at tech-savvy customers who would not need extensive after-sale support, as opposed to 'newbies' who need more help, thus enabling the firm to gain savings that are passed onto consumers. According to Rob McEwen, president of M2K, iDot's current ad agency, iDot's long and narrow print ads bearing minimal text exhibit the vivid, succinct and confident attitudes that are reflective of Web culture.
