It makes sense to be intelligent in the 1990s

Article Abstract:

The main speaker at the Electrical Contractors Asssociation Seminar on Intelligent Buildings - Producers and Users was David Gann from the University of Sussex, UK. Gann lectured about intelligent buildings pioneered by the Japanese. Japanese developers are teaming up with electronics and telecommunications firms to develop intelligent building technologies under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of Construction. One Japanese government building has braille on its hand rails. Japan is seeking markets for these innovations in Europe.

Article Abstract:

The new minister for construction Nick Raynsford is congratulated for his outstanding lead in opposition, especially on the Construction Act 1996, in a letter to the minister. Labour's response to the private finance initiative is praised for clearing blockages and introducing new administrative structures. However the timetable for bringing the Construction Act into operation is criticised. The Highways Agency's plans to trial the Engineering and Construction Contract are welcomed.

Article Abstract:

The Chartered Institute of Builder's Working Group 4a report entitled Selecting Consultants for the Team: Balancing Quality and Price offers an effective recipe for team recruitment. It has been adopted successfully by the English Heritage in its Tower Environs Scheme (TES) for the tourist attraction sites Tower of London and London Bridge. TES Team members were chosen to reflect an appropriate balance between cost and quality.
