It's good business to talk

Article Abstract:

Communication is extremely important in the construction industry, as exchanging views openly can significantly affect the emphasis of a project or the course of a design. It is very worthwhile encouraging apparently insignificant exchanges, as these can enhance creativity and open up new possibilities. There has been a strong shift in the construction industry towards writing down as many details as possible of the work to be undertaken, but this does not mean that there is no longer a role for simply talking.

That uncertain feeling

Article Abstract:

Indecision can have a very negative impact on construction projects in the UK. Indecision can arise in a number of different areas. In some cases, it can affect the funding of a project, making it impossible for the project to be completed. In other cases, it can affect the design, with many clients not being certain about exactly what they want. When indecision becomes too dominant, frustration can arise and those involved in the project can be tempted to stop trying to get things right.

Don't forget the engineer

Article Abstract:

Architects tend to have the most high-profile role in the UK construction industry, while much less attention is paid to the contribution made by engineers and quantity surveyors. Engineers play a valuable part in ensuring that a building works effectively, while quantity surveyors assist the construction team in achieving a balanced product. Architects will continue to receive most attention, but engineers and quantity surveyors should seek greater recognition.
