Johns Manville agrees to merger with investor group

Article Abstract:

Denver, CO-based Johns Manville Corp has signed a definitive agreement to merge with an investor group composed of Dallas, TX-based Hicks Muse Tate and Furst and Bear Stearns Merchant Banking. The transaction, which is valued at roughly $3 billion, is expected to close by Dec 31, 2000. The Manville Personal Injury Settlement Trust and members of Johns Manville management, including Chmn/CEO Jerry Henry, will retain an equity stake in the post-merger entity. The deal comes one year after Johns Manville put itself up for sale. The firm reported 1999 sales of $2.2 billion.

RSI construction update

Article Abstract:

Cleveland, OH-based Freedonia Group Inc expects roofing demand to increase by 2.1% to 288 million squares per year between 2000 through 2003. It predicts that the modified and metal roofing segments will experience the largest amount of growth, with an annual increase of 4.4% projected for both segments. Insulation demand is expected to reach 7.6 billion pounds in 2004, while demand for foamed plastic is projected to increase the fastest at 3.4% a year until 2004.

School colors are showcased in roof design

Article Abstract:

F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Company Inc of Milwaukee, WI, managed to showcase the blue-and-white school colors of the North Division High School with the use of modified bitumen. Bitec Inc's Mineral Design system was specified for the roofing to form a distinguished pattern, called Strip Slates. The contractor used the pattern from granule-surfaced membrane to create an aesthetically-attractive roof design that can be viewed from the upper grounds of the school.
