Little and large thinking on Salisbury Plain

Article Abstract:

Senior manager of English Heritage, Jocelyn Stevens, has launched a design competition for Stonehenge costing 15 million pounds sterling. The six contestants have a month to design a visitors' centre. Stevens is condemning the way in which English Heritage has managed Stonehenge since 1984. Change is needed to protect the historical monument from graffiti and solstice worshippers. Professor of Architecture Theo Crosby is against the competition. Crosby has recommended a Wilshire National Park costing 150 million pounds sterling.

The Prince's men go at it hammer and tongs

Article Abstract:

A meeting held at the Prince of Wales Institute of Architecture about architectural education was given by the headmaster of the Prince's 2 summer schools Jules Lubbock and Dir of Studies at the Prince's Academy Brian Hanson. James Stirling: meetings with a remarkable man

Article Abstract:

Architect James Stirling began his career as a leader of the Modernist movement yet changed his views and became a proponent of pluralism. Stirling objected to being labelled and disputed the classification of architects into schools and styles. However, such descriptions are used and Stirling's change of heart can be regarded as treachery. His later work cannot be ignored but it represents a failure of conviction.
