Long-term growth seen for MH industry

Article Abstract:

Industrial analysts of The CIT Group/Sales Financing Inc. forecast a positive outlook for the manufactured home shipments industry by 1998 and 1999. With the increasing demand for multi-sector manufactured homes in place of site-built houses, the industry is predicted to raise its shipments by 3% in 1998 and by 7% in 1999. Moreover, the increasing number of consumers belonging to an older group and higher acceptance of prefabricated homes as a good alternative seem to create an enhanced image for the whole industry.

Tornado news reports draw mixed reviews

Article Abstract:

News reports on the safety and ability of manufactured homes to withstand tornadoes have been confusing. News coverage concentrated on the damage incurred by manufactured houses, particularly on houses built after the HUD law has been implemented. Reporters referred to some facilities as being mobile homes when they are not. However, some reporters clearly stated the differences between older homes and the newer, stronger mobile homes which have been built following stricter rules.

It's all about image

Article Abstract:

The US prefabricated housing industry has undergone a number of substantial changes over the years. The transition from mobile houses to manufactured housing units did not only promote sectoral growth but also give way for the improvement of materials and product quality. The introduction of HUD-code manufactured housing in the country further enhanced the industry's growth potential, providing the cheapest form of unsubsidized housing at present.
