Merit award: Akron show space sells furniture ... and houses

Article Abstract:

Architect Robert Hinton's design of Wayside Furniture's display office in Akron, OH, won a Sterling Merit Award for Best Commercial Interior for 1992. He conceptualized the furniture display center as a home where furnitures can be offset to advantage. Hinton negotiated for a contract provision which allowed him to showcase his own materials in the model home to be used as Wayside Furniture's display center. The design incorporated a dramatic presentation of interior finish work, kitchen cabinetry and built-in appliances. Black ceilings with color-corrected lighting gave an illusion of space.
