Building accord

Article Abstract:

Litigation accounts for an estimated 6%, or some 250 million pounds sterling a year, of turnover in the construction industry. Calculations of time taken to settle claims and management costs are unknown. Some 78% of building contracts are managed under JCT forms, which are regarded by industry as the root cause of arguments. The extent to which contractual agreements and JCT forms are the origins of disputes is examined and the views of leading figures in the construction industry are outlined.
