Misunderstood intentions

Article Abstract:

A letter of intent is often used in the construction industry when it is necessary for work to begin straight away in order to ensure that completion is achieved on time. This avoids waiting for all the full contract documents to be assembled. It appears easy to draft a letter of intent, but in fact there are still many legal disputes which arise from problems with such documents. This is particularly common where changes are negotiated after the tenders have been returned.

Settling for a quiet life

Article Abstract:

Commercial settlements can incur problems if they are not considered carefully enough prior to agreement. They are an advisable professional practice designed to protect contractor and client. They should be clearly described in a written statement covering each aspect of the contract. Details on damages upon breach of contract should also be included. The case of D&C Builders Ltd v Rees is sited to illustrate what can occur with an inadequate commercial settlement.
