Nissho Iwai buys into Guthy-Renker Asia Pacific

Article Abstract:

Nissho Iwai Corp., a $75 billion Japanese trading company, has acquired a minority stake in Guthy-Renker International Asia Pacific, a subsidiary of Guthy-Renker Corp. of Palm Desert, CA. The deal will enhance Guthy-Renker's reach in the Asia-Pacific region as it will give the company a partner that holds deeper understanding of business dealings in Asian countries. Nissho Iwai reportedly owns a wide range of distribution platforms essential for direct television (DRTV) marketing, as well as an extensive network of warehouses, trade relationships and management information systems.

Snyder continues company buying spree in Europe

Article Abstract:

Snyder Communications has acquired CLI Pharma SA, a top French pharmaceutical sales company, for $25 million in April 1998. The move is in line with Snyder's strategy of acquiring companies located in Europe to allow it to expand worldwide. Paris, France-based CLI Pharma is the sixth European company acquired by Snyder in 13 months. Snyder also acquired Publimed Promotions SA for $43 million in March 1998. Snyder also announced a joint venture formed by its Blau Marketing subsidiary, which was awarded a contract to provide direct marketing services to UK-based British Telecom.

Draft adds fourth German agency

Draft Worldwide, a US-based advertising and marketing agency, has acquired M&V GmbH, a German direct marketing firm with $78 million in annual billings. The acquisition gives Draft its fourth German agency, with each of the agencies covering a different field. M&V's areas of strength includes a high degree of creativity and trade marketing. M&V"s client list includes Volvo, Peugeot, Marriott Vacation Club and Siemens Nixdorf, reflecting the agency's high level of following in the financial services and automotive segments.
