Three schools of speculators

Article Abstract:

There are differing views amongst City analysts on when the private housebuilding sector will emerge from its worst post-war recession. Most housebuilders fall into the category of sceptics, believing that recovery will take some years. Another category consists of pessimists, who forecast a 2% decline in house prices in 1992, followed by no growth in prices in 1993. The third category is that of the revivalists. The Oxford Economic Forecasting Group forecasts that by the end of 1992, base rates will be at 8.5%, leading to a 6.9% increase in construction output in 1993.

Guang-ho!

Article Abstract:

China has been encouraging foreign investment since the 90s. Its gross national product increased by 27% in 1991 and it is a great source of cheap labour. The national wage average is 70 pounds sterling a month. Guangdong in southern China has been made a special economic area where taxes are low and free trade is offered. Western companies have been offered 100% leasehold ownership of land. Western firms provide top project management skills. The main problems are corruption, bureaucracy, the lack of any legal system and pay difficulties.
