PA sues telemarketer over policy fundraising

Article Abstract:

Liberty Publishing Co, a Pittsburgh, PA-based telemarketing firm, has received a legal setback following the Pennsylvania attorney general's office's filing of a lawsuit against the company. Liberty was accused of illegally raising funds for law enforcement organizations. In addition, the company was accused of using convicted felons as telemarketers and misleading consumers into thinking that its sales agents were police officers.

Experts predict political prerecords are here to stay

Article Abstract:

With the Nov 2 presidential election nearing, political marketing is gaining momentum and with the cost per call decreasing, prerecorded political calls supporting campaigns is growing despite the public irritation. These robocall as they are called are generally not effective at encouraging people to vote, but they sometimes do tend to influence voting decisions.

Groups ask FCC to preempt states

Article Abstract:

Thirty three trade groups and tele-services firms submitted a petition to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States to rule that states have no authority to regulate telemarketing calls. The FCC has told that it will consider the industry claims on a case-by-case basis.
