Paging systems

Article Abstract:

The UK construction industry has turned to the installation of in-house DTP (desktop publishing) systems. This move reduces publishing costs, lowers production time, reduces staff and can encourage business due to the production of quality sales literature. Taywood Engineering has cut its staff to one department of 12 because its DTP handles photographs, graphics and text. Graphic designers, Hallmark PR's DTP can produce artwork for a 1/3 less than typesetters. Many firms do not employ fully-trained DTP operators so systems are not used properly.

Chip shopping

Article Abstract:

The choice of computer processor should depend upon the software which will be run on the computer. Use of the appropriate processor will prevent the hourglass symbol from appearing too often with the user's standard software. Many standard office packages will run with ease on a basic 133 megahertz Pentium, although 166 megahertz offers the best value for money. The advantages of products from manufacturers other than Intel Corp are discussed, together with the features of different Pentium processors.

Windows shopping

Article Abstract:

Microsoft's Windows 98 operating system is claimed by the company to be considerably more reliable than Windows 95. It features a new utility, System File Checker, to seek corrupt system files and automatically ensure that the system operates properly. It has a new 'browser-style' screen with navigation buttons, and is also claimed to make it easier to locate, open and save files. It allows users to add up to eight extra monitors to their PC, creating a sort of video wall.
