The second coming

Article Abstract:

The 14th century Archbishop's Palace Maidstone, Kent, UK has been refurbished and restored by Maidstone Council at a cost of 2.75 million pounds sterling. The project has taken 7 years to complete. Alteration and remodelling over the centuries had resulted in settlement, cracking and collapse; the building was declared unsafe in 1985 and closed. Damp penetration had caused timber decay. The main task was to stabilise the structure. The main floors were strengthened to improve loading and the Kentish ragstone was cleaned, repointed and repaired. All the wood panelling has been restored.
