Pen-based software allows builders to compute on site

Article Abstract:

UFAB Inc of Research Triangle Park, NC, has designed and manufactured a software package that can allow builders to use computer facilities on site. The software is called Field-Pen which can be interfaced with the project management system Buildsoft. Field-Pen, priced at $1000, allows builders to work with material records, deliveries, orders and other management needs at the construction site because it is equipped with a handwriting recognition facility and can store as much as two weeks worth of average construction needs.

Competitive neighborhoods and design innovation found throughout Las Vegas

Article Abstract:

Housing areas have continued to grow in Las Vegas, NV, despite the general slump in the housing market. These include Summerlin in the northwest, which boasts of its innovative housing designs, and the Craig Road area in the north. The latter offers affordable detached housing units which attract mostly move-up buyers and retirees. Other growth areas in Las Vegas are Green Valley in the southwest, Christopher Homes and Coleman Homes.

Passive design captures the public's eye

Article Abstract:

Passive heating and cooling of houses is growing popular because builders are familiar with the technologies and materials and most importantly, it sells. Most of passive houses use a slab or masonry wall storage system. People want a nice house that is energy efficient. Many of the energy-efficient features make the house appealing to the buyer besides cutting energy consumption.
