Plane crash kills Brownings

Article Abstract:

Virginia Beach, VA-based Browning's Marine Inc operators James Browning Sr and his wife Olive were killed in a mid-morning plane crash on Mar 16, 1999. The two were among the most active members of the Marine Retailers Assn of America (MRAA). MRAA Pres Phil Keeter noted that both were particularly active in the legislative area of the marine industry. Olive Browning, who received the MRAA's 'Darlene Briggs Marine Woman of the Year Award' in 1991, was instrumental in getting the Virginia Legislature to require fair warranty pay for marine dealers.

ABBRA gets a full-time staff exec

Article Abstract:

New York, NY-based American Boat Builders and Repairers Assn (ABBRA) has hired a full-time executive director for the first time in its 56-year history. Patricia Kearns took over the job on Nov 15, 1999. Her established goals for the organization include creating even more programs, increasing organizational membership, fostering greater awareness of the association and increasing its interaction with other groups. ABBRA will soon relocate its headquarters from New York to Kent Island, MD.

'Major' deal in the works, Genmar puts IPO on hold

Article Abstract:

Minneapolis, MN-based boatbuilding and repair company Genmar Holdings Inc has temporarily shelved plans for an initial public offering (IPO) pending the outcome of negotiations with another, unnamed firm regarding Genmar's Virtual Engineered Composites technology. Genmar hopes to sell 6.5 million shares of common stock at $11-$13 a share in an IPO at the NASDAQ stock exchange that it hopes will raise $71.5 million-$84.5 million in net proceeds.
