Postal service ready to debut tracking program this month

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Postal Service is set to roll out in October 1998 a new service that will allow customers to track letter-sized mail electronically by using Planet Code barcodes. Called Origin Confirm/Destination Confirm, the new service gathers data on incoming mails and provides information about which customers have responded before the mailer receives the hard copy. USPS believes that the new service will help mailers manage their cash flows and accounts receivables more efficiently. Moreover, Origin Confirm will enable mailers to assess the success of their ad campaigns based on the incoming responses.
