Article Abstract:

Plastic is the most popular form of window repacement in the UK. This is because plastic is easy to maintain and clean and is durable. Plastic accessories, such as sills, window boards, reveal liners and soffits are cost-effective and time-saving. New manufacturing techniques have improved timber windows. Scandanavian wood is the most popular. Windows covered in stain primer makes the wood more durable. Composite construction and lamination adds stength and not weight. Aluminium frames have the advantage of not expanding in hot weather and are strong.

Taking a rain check

Article Abstract:

Only 4% of rainfall in the UK is collected for public use. Following 4 years of low rainfall and drought conditions in the South East, the water boards will be installing household metres. Until then consumer extravagance continues. A third of water is used for flushing toilets. Water recycling methods need to be examined. The roof of an average-sized semi-detached house in the South East could collect 8,000 gallons of water per year. Water could also be used as an energy source.
