Article Abstract:

Some timber manufacturers have developed prefabricated panel systems and engineered floor kits for the UK construction industry. Timber was becoming increasingly unpopular with builders who favoured concrete. Although timber was still used for intermediate floors in 95% of domestic buildings. Whilst the use of timber for ground floors in residential dwellings had declined to 10% in 1999 from 17% in 1997. Suspended precast concrete had also increased in popularity.
