Quality not quantities

Article Abstract:

The blame for the unpopularity of quantity surveyors in the construction industry lies with their outdated and unreliable practices. The most reliable way of estimating the potential costs of a construction project is to approach a contractor's building estimator. The construction industry's bill of quantities, prepared and priced by quantity surveyors, is an incomprehensible and costly document that benefits none. It is likely that the days of the quantity surveyor are numbered.

Failure of the imagination

Article Abstract:

Concern is being raised as to what will be inside the UK Millennium Dome, when it is opened to celebrate the year 2000. The construction of the Dome is within budget and on time, yet the ideas put forward for the exhibitions are not as exciting as they could be. The scope for technological innovations is huge, given the size and structure of the Dome. Over 6.5 million pounds sterling worth of fees has been paid to the exhibition coordinators Imagination.
