Article Abstract:

Samsung Electronics' quality assurance laboratory at Blackbushe Business Park, Yateley, England, has two anechoic chambers where electromagnetic waves given off by electronic equipment can be measured without interference from reflected waves. The chambers, the only ones of their kind in the UK, allow the company to comply with European regulations which are designed to stop electromagnetic waves given off by a piece of electronic equipment interfering with the operation of another piece of equipment. They have waveproof entrances and are covered with many 2.4 mt long foam pyramids.

Battling for control

Article Abstract:

Local authority building controllers in the UK are now facing growing competition from private 'approved inspectors' which are claiming to offer a better service at a lower price. Most clients have so far been cautious about moving to private inspectors, but this situation may not last for long. The private firms which have been approved by the government - Butler and Young, BRCS (Building Control) and Tarmac Professional Services - are allowed to check that non-domestic buildings are constructed to comply with Building Regulations.
