Virtual Basingstoke

Article Abstract:

Laing, the main contractor on the 110 million pounds sterling Festival Place redevelopment in Basingstoke, England, for Grosvenor Holdings, has invested 45,000 pounds sterling in constructing a 3D replica of the scheme. Two technicians spent three months creating this replica on an AutoCAD 2000 platform. The cut-throughs and elevations of different sections of the scheme allow Laing Construction Director Paul Ashford to make informed judgements about the sequence of the construction programme. Grosvenor Estates Associate Director Lawrence Chadwick has found that the model is a valuable marketing tool.

The software modules deal with administration, security, estimating, stock control, enquiries, pay roll, purchasing and job costing, and have made it possible to reduce the number of administrative staff.
