Article Abstract:

All UK loft conversions require approval by local building control and if they exceed the specified dimensions or the building is listed, planning permission is required. The correct size of window is important for good lighting and ventilation. Roof skylights admit much more light than vertical windows. Standard windows are usually fitted with a 20mm sealed double-glazed unit. External blinds are the best deterrent against heat. Windows should open to provide a ventilation area equal to 5% of the floor area to be ventilated.

Article Abstract:

The UK's new urban regeneration companies should be independent of local authorities but directed by them, according to Urban Task Force Deputy Chmn and Housing Corp Chief Executive Anthony Mayer. He believes that the urban regeneration companies will offer valuable new opportunities for housing associations. He does not think that any one organization will be allocated the task of overseeing the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Urban Task Force's report.
