Screed all about it

Article Abstract:

Floating floor screeds will be increasingly used in the construction industry, although some are concerned about the high level of litigation arising through defects created by incorrectly laid or badly designed screeds. Flooring contractors are finding floating screeds difficult to compact and are concerned that insulation boards may compress as the screed is added. The Contract Flooring Assn (CFA) refutes alleged problems and encourages the use of floating screeds in a move to end the problems arising from adding floor finishes to screeds when not adequately dried. Any problems of floating screeds are alleged to be due to bad workmanship or design.

Playing FTSE

Article Abstract:

Multidisciplinary construction contractor W.S. Atkins was floated on the UK stock exchange in July 1996. The company had made a previous flotation attempt in 1990 but the Gulf War and the economic recession made it impossible for the process to proceed. Mike Jeffries, chief executive of W.S. Atkins, managed the flotation, which was substantially over-subscribed. The company's shares opened at 2.29 pounds sterling, 0.14 pounds sterling more than the offer price. Another major construction company, Edinburgh-based Morrison Construction was floated in October 1995.
