Seeping sickness

Article Abstract:

The Centre for Window Cladding Technology at Bath University published a British standard for the UK curtain walling industry on Feb 5 1993. It focuses on laboratory and on-site testing and does not offer prescriptive design advice. About 50% of curtain walling leaks because of bad design and poor installation. Joints are often too narrow and sealants are incorrectly used. There are 3 types of curtain walling: front-sealed which relies on water proof front seals; secondary defence and pressure equalised. The last 2 use a second seal in the gap between the panels.
