Shopping site to be part of BTopenworld Service

Article Abstract:

British Telecommunications (BT) will start an online shopping channel as part of its BTopenworld global Internet business. BTopenworld would bring together BT's various Internet businesses, including a 50% stake in Excite. It plans to use the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line technology, which transforms exisiting copper phone wires into a high-speed digital line. BT has appointed Budd Margolis as head of BTopenworld interactive retail business, tasked with creating the best interactive shopping experience for consumers.

Sonic Foundry strengthens call centers for overseas DM

Sonic Foundry plans to mail 50,000 catalogs for the marketing campaign of its Internet streaming software product in Germany. Its Jukebox Siren and Acid software allows audio and video files to stream over the Internet for use by professionals and consumers alike. Sonic Foundry is also looking for the appropriate technology that could possibly handle the volume of inquiries it expects from Germany. Specifically, it is looking for electronic mail and other Web-based tools.

Art institute frames acquisition push around exhibit

Article Abstract:

The Art Institute of Chicago is distributing 400,000 direct-mail pieces as part of a plan to increase its membership and promote its exhibition of works by Van Gogh and Gauguin, to be staged from Sep 2001 through Jan 2002. The direct-mail pieces would be sent to people whose demographic data matches that of its current members. The Art Institute currently has 121,000 members, which peaked at 150,000 when the museum exhibited works of Auguste Renoir in 1995.
