Article Abstract:

UK Members of Parliament are entitled to work for their country in a conducive environment, without the media complaining about the cost of the new 40 million pounds sterling building being constructed close to The Houses of Westminster. The parliamentary members of other countries have new buildings constructed without any complaints from media or public, even though they have smaller populations. The new Portcullis House should be regarded as a monument to the future and not just for the members of today's parliament.

Beauty before age

Article Abstract:

The UK government should set aside funding to maintain the national heritage provided by buildings constructed during the 1960s, despite the general view regarding their lack of suitability to be listed as buildings worth preserving. Less work will be necessary to preserve individual buildings if funding is provided sooner rather than later. Many 1960s buildings have been subject to deterioration caused by the British climate and inadequate construction practices when first built.

Not-so-great court

Article Abstract:

The British Museum's Great Court is criticised as being less worthy of the praises it has received in the newspapers. The covering of the former Round Reading Room of the British Library is found to be regrettable, as are the restaurant and toilet facilities of the museum.
