Stadium designers set to be named

Article Abstract:

The English Sports Council is expected to name the firms chosen to design the National Stadiums at Wembley, London and Manchester, UK. The stadiums will be funded with 240 million pounds sterling from the National Lottery. Manchester's stadium will be used for the Commonwealth Games to be held in the year 2002. The expected design team for Manchester consists of Arup Associates and technical auditing architect Lobb. Wembley Stadium is expected to be designed by a consortium of Foster, HOK and Lobb. A retractable roof will be built over Wembley to allow in-door events to be held.

Thinking big

Article Abstract:

S333 Directors Jonathan Woodroffe and Barton Hamfelt work alongside two other young architects in the company they moved to Amsterdam, Holland, in 1994. They have been successful since the move to Holland. They have won a competition to design a mixed-use development in Groningen, Holland.

The return of the dragon

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the recovery which has occurred in the economy of Hong Kong following its return to Chinese rule and the financial crisis in Asia. Major construction projects underway in 2000 are discussed.
