Staging an adjudication

Article Abstract:

The School of Business and Industrial Management set up a role play exercise featuring an adjudication, for an audience of 40 people from the British construction industry. Conference Chairman Guy Cottam pointed out the adjudication process was in some difficulty as many adjudicators had faced a challenge to their powers. It was felt by the majority of the audience adjudicators should not be involved in deciding any costs but their own fees. Adjudication was introduced to avoid litigation in the construction industry.

Taking it to the wire

Article Abstract:

UK construction materials firms are starting to offer electronic commerce facilities. Even firms that have not established electronic trading have web sites that permit clients to download product specifications and ascertain availability. Five of the UK's largest main contractors hope to create an electronic commerce marketplace in 2000. The web is less expensive than the phone or the post, and will permit smaller companies to benefit from a more efficient ordering process.
