The Rogers report

Article Abstract:

The UK government is expected to act on a series of proposals set out in a report put together by the Urban Task Force, which highlights the need to increase inner-city regeneration through tax incentives and attractive designs. The Urban Task Force is headed by Lord Rogers, who strongly believes the only way to encourage people back into the inner-city areas is through the building of high-density housing in sustainable developments. Many of the taskforce's ideas have come from city planning in the Netherlands, where bicycles and public transport are widely used.

Rogers blasts 'tragic' Pompidou revamp

Article Abstract:

The 54 million pounds sterling update of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, France has been heavily criticised by the original architectural designer of the building, Lord Rogers. The introduction of entrance fees and new lift facilities have compromised the buildings' true meaning, according to Rogers, who completed the building in 1977. People no longer flow through the building as was originally intended, with Rogers claiming the introduction of lift shafts removes the original intension to keep all movement horizontal.

Rogers calls for clampdown on greenfield projects

Article Abstract:

The UK government must restrict the use of greenfield sites for development, according to the report from the urban taskforce headed by Lord Rogers. If this does not happen, then it will prove very difficult to reach the target of building 60% of new homes on brownfield sites. The report also recommends that a number of greenfield sites designated for development should be 'de-allocated' and that all contaminated land be brought into development use by 2021.
