Times Mirror buyer selling off magazines

Article Abstract:

Tribune Co is acquiring Times Mirror Co for $8 billion. Motor Boating and Sailing magazine's staffers who survived the acquisition of Times Mirror Magazines in Dec 2000, are in for another period of uncertainty with the purchase of Times Mirror Co, its parent company. Tribune's management has announced that it intends to focus on broadcasting, newspaper publishing and Internet properties and sell off Times Mirror Magazines. Times Mirror Magazines is the publisher of Salt Water Sportsman, yachting and Motor Boating and Sailing.

Bluewater Books & Charts sold to Far Horizon LLC

Article Abstract:

Bookseller and nautical chart agency Bluwater Books & Charts was sold to Far Horizon LLC. Bluewater was established 14 years ago by spouses Milt and Judy Baker while Far Horizon is owned by the husband and wife team of John J Mann III and Vivien P Godfrey. Since its establishment in 1986, Bluewater has increased its stocks to over 35,000 books and charts. The firm posted 1999 revenues of $4.4 million. Most of its growth has been in the field of electronic charts.

Boatswain's Locker Inc

Article Abstract:

Boatswain's Locker Inc, a Jacksonville, FL-based manufacturer of OEM canvas tops and enclosures for large boats and yachts, has been acquired by Phoenix, AZ-based Marine Accessories Corp. The terms of the deal allow Boatswain's Pres William Bransford to retain his position and become director and shareholder of Marine Accessories. Boatswain's will also continue to operate from its facilities in Jacksonville and Cocoa Beach, FL.
