Towboat operator fights manatee speed fine

Article Abstract:

U.S. Magistrate David A. Baker has fined former Florida SeaTow boat operator, Rick Rescott, for speeding through a manatee protection zone. The decision puts Rescott's career in jeopardy. Rescott had contended that he was responding to a report of a sinking vessel, and indeed Talon, a boat owned by John Overchuck, was taking on water due to faulty bilge pump though there was no danger of it sinking. Aggrieved, Rescott intends to appeal the ruling.

Article Abstract:

The boating infrastructure in Florida is in shambles but the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) is still functional with adequate docks and fuel pumps intact to help it resume business. Cruisers heading towards Florida will not be inconvenienced for want of docking, fuel and other facilities at the ICW.
