The Japanese Web site is Viking's fifth and will be promoted through direct marketing programs. The company's four other Web sites are in the US, UK, Germany and the Netherlands. Swedish mail order still cautious about Web

Article Abstract:

The mail order industry in Sweden has adapted to online selling relatively well though some companies are still cautious about the Internet. In 1999, Swedish mail order houses sold goods worth about $55 million over the Web, which represents 6% of their sales and a 100% increase from the 1998 total. Despite the move towards modern operation, the Swedish companies are still burdened by the high cost of home delivery.

Asian crisis close to reaching bottom; India seen as lucrative market

Article Abstract:

Direct marketers (DMers) in Asia report response rates are slowly rising, indicating that the Asian crisis may have bottomed out. DMers are beginning to mail again, but are encountering problems with mailing lists that have not been updated since the crisis broke out. Non-US mailers, meanwhile, are moving in to fill in the gap left by US DMers who left in droves due to the strong dollar and the crisis.
