Who really remembers?

Article Abstract:

The broadcasting of a television programme in 1983 questioning the standards of workmanship and build quality on timber-frame built houses had a detrimental affect on both the construction industry and the buying public. Researchers found by 1999 the public had almost forgotten the negative aspects of the programme in relation to timber-frame construction although the industry appears to still be haunted by the claims made by the World in Action programme. Housebuilder Beazer has committed to building up to 50% of new homes using timber-frame construction and the research shows it has nothing to fear from the public response to such building methods.

Dream team

Article Abstract:

The UK government is looking at the possibility of extending the 'development team approach' to the handling of planning applications by local authorities beyond the boroughs of Wakefield and Doncaster in Yorkshire, where this system has already been in operation since 1994. The DOE is now prepared to give funding of 30,000 pounds sterling to each of four local councils prepared to test the development team approach, and the project is set to begin before the end of 1996.
