Compaq buys Inacom, expands Direct

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer Corp of Houston, TX, has purchased four major configuration centers from InaCom Corp of Omaha, NE, in a cash deal valued at $370 million. Compaq, which will also get a call center in Omaha, made the acquisition in an effort to create a unit that will focus primarily on direct marketing. Compaq, which wil also gain over 2,500 employees from InaCom, intends to increase its direct sales in the US from 25% to over 40%.

BTB campaign is bery hush-hush for BDirect

BDirect Capital has developed a business-to-business campaign for a financial services firm without mentioning the details of the service or the company name. The campaign is targets the private equity service, which includes venture capital investments and leveraged buyouts, at brokers and invetsment advisers who, in turn, offer it to their customers. The campaign uses a cover letter and a poster with the image of an escalator delivering people to the summit of what appears to be an unconquerable mountain.

YouthStream acquisition adds 3 million names in target market

YouthStream Media Networks is in a position to increase its marketing reach through its acquisition of sixdegrees inc and other marketing programs. Its acquisition provides promotional opportunities with News Corp which has invested in sixdegrees. YouthStream vp of corporate strategy said their plans include TV spots by the first quarter of 2000, and the merger of CommonPlaces and Network Event Theater.
