eBay's new newsletter program targets buyers in 50 regions

Article Abstract:

Online auction firm eBay will launch next month an e-mail newsletter program targeted at people registered with eBay's regional sites. Sellers are benefited because they are able to widen exposure of their items by choosing a region. Buyers, in turn, also benefit because they will be able to arrange for products on eBay which are too heavy to mail. Those who have registered with eBay's regional program will receive e-mail newsletter based on their region and preferred interests.

Online stamp program set to expand test

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service reports that its Information-Based Indicium Program, which allows customers to make stamp purchases online, has taken off as planned. Debuting in late March 1998, the program is being testing in Washington, DC, by 20-25 beta users who are utilizing USPS-approved E-Stamp Corp.'s E-Stamp Internet Postage. E-Stamp intends to test to expand in the next four weeks to 500 small business and home-office users in the San Francisco, CA, and Washington areas. Commercial version of the technology is expected to be available before the end of 1998, pending final approval from USPS.

E-Stamp, Stamps.com duel over SOHO

Article Abstract:

Online postage vendors E-Stamp Corp and Stamps.com have started marketing campaigns citing the advantages of their Internet postage products. The former has launched 30-second cable TV spots touting the benefits of buying stamps online. It has also started a direct mail campaign geared towards small businesses across the US. On the other hand, the latter's TV ads feature comedian BoB Newhart as its spokesman. Its campaign is geared towards making a quick connection with small business owners.
