Amazon and Travelocity among US firms entering Japan

Article Abstract:

Travelocity.com and Amazon.com Inc have entered the Japanese market in Aug 2000. Amazon.com's venture in Japan is a proposed call center in Sapporo, Hokkaido, that will start breaking grounds in the fall. The company has already run classified ads to recruit people for its call center. Travelocity.com has inked a deal with Japan Air Lines Company Ltd and All Nippon Airways Company Ltd to form an online retailer of travel products.

German online bookseller challenges Amazon, BOL

Article Abstract:

Buecher.de is expected by analysts to challenge the dominance of Amazon.com Inc and Berterlmann AG in the European online book retailing market. Although new German online bookseller's stock has been sliding since it went public in 1999, its sales are growing faster than fixed costs. To compete with the two online booksellers, the company is leveraging on its speed in delivering books to buyers, which is a day faster than Amazon.
