Article Abstract:

Selecting a new desktop computer can be simplified by identifying your requirements. Questions to ask oneself include: who is to use the machine; how much storage and memory is required; what software is intended to be used; and what peripherals are required. An overview of the current PC market is given, along with brief details of recent developments in memory, software, operating systems, and security. A profile of Apple is provided, along with various PC reviews, and charts of some of the PCs currently available.

A summarized brand survey of handheld computers is given. Handheld computer manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order. A number or products are recommended including 3Com PalmPilot Professional; Apple Newton Message Pad 2100 and Geogox-One Professional. The Psion Series 5 handheld device costs between 440 pounds sterling and 500 pounds sterling to purchase. It is well designed and includes an extensive range of utilities such as e-mailing software.
