Cutting edge

Article Abstract:

The main types of lawnmower are cylinder, hover and rotary. Each of these types can be powered by petrol or mains electricity. Cylinders can also be hand pushed, while rotary lawnmowers can be powered by rechargeable batteries. Electric lawnmowers still account for the majority of the around 1 million lawnmowers sold in the UK each year, but rechargeable battery lawnmowers are becoming more popular. The best lawnmowers include the Honda HRE 370 PU electric rotary, the Black & Decker GRC450 cordless battery rotary and the Al-Ko 380CL hand cylinder.

More than just a mower

Article Abstract:

The most common type of lawnmower in use in Australia is the gasoline-powered rotary mower. Mowers that mulch and are thus environmentally advantageous are increasing in popularity. Manufacturers have promoted them vigorously over about three years and they have gained a foothold in the market. Ten gasoline-powered mulching mowers were tested for cutting and mulching performance on different heights of different types of grasses. Test results are helpful in the selection of a mulching mower.

Cutting gas deaths

Article Abstract:

Gas-related carbon monoxide poisoning causes almost 30 deaths in the UK every year. There are particular dangers for people who live in private rented accommodation, and this has prompted the government to introduce legislation obliging landlords to have an annual professional safety check undertaken on gas appliances. However, recent research has found that many landlords are not doing so.
