Desktop computer ranges from the top 10 manufacturers in the UK market are reviewed. They include Apple Computer UK Ltd's Power Macintosh ranges, which are mainly aimed at design and desktop publishing departments. AST offers the Bravo range and Compaq offers three different ranges. Dell's two Dimension ranges are reviewed and Digital's Venturis FX-2, Celebris FX-2 and Celebris GL-2 ranges are considered. Other company ranges reviewed include Elonex, Fujitsu, Gateway 2000, Hewlett Packard and IBM, and a table of specifications and system prices is provided.

Apple turns sour

Article Abstract:

Computer manufacturer Apple Computer Inc. was enormously successful in the late 1970s and early 1980s. However, it failed to respond to increasing market competition when rivals Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corp. launched the Windows operating system and had lost most of its market share and billions of US dollars by 1996. Apple continues to strive for regrowth but its future is hard to predict. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs intends to use the Internet to boost European sales.
